What Is the Peace of God? Its Biblical Meaning and Practical Benefits
What exactly does peace mean, since there are a variety of ways to look at it? The Blue Letter Bible explains it as follows:
1. a state of national tranquillity - exemption from the rage and havoc of war
2. peace between individuals, i.e. harmony, concord
3. security, safety, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous)
4. of the Messiah's peace - the way that leads to peace (salvation)
5. of Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is
6. the blessed state of devout and upright men after death
Let’s consider these variations as we ask the question “What is the significance of peace when it comes to healing?”
Having peace with God is a crucial part of establishing that relationship. First of all it’s important to realise that God is a God of love and peace:
“Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”(2 Corinthians 13:11).
Peace appears on the list of qualities that we are to have and develop (fruit of the Spirit) when we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and the Holy Spirit comes to live in us: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”(Galatians 5:22).

Peace affects your heart and mind. In our world today, we can be under great mental stress which can then lead to physical problems, and so this affects the quality of life that we have, eg our sleeping pattern can be affected which is an important part of keeping our immune system in good shape:
“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:7).
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."(John 14:27)
Peace with God was won for Christians by Jesus when He died for us on the cross:
“And, having made peace through the blood of his (Jesus’) cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself”(Colossians 1:20).
Peace should be sought after:
“They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”(1 Peter 3:11).
The God of peace always wants to give us peace:
“Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.”(2 Thessalonians 3:16).
What should be done to be kept in peace:
“You (God) will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”(Isaiah 26:3-4).
The path of peace is to be followed:
“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”(2 Timothy 2:22).
By acting in peace, then great results are obtained:
“Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”(James 3:18).
“The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.”(Isaiah 32:17).
Other people should be blessed with peace:
“I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings.”(3 John 1:14)
Peace image: "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
